"sail" chair
another project exploring sustainability and the use of components migrated from other industries; in this case pulley blocks normally used on sailboats. the result being a deck chair, for your boat deck or in your garden. marine grade stainless steel was used for the support frame and base, with a hemp "sail" seat lined with wild silk for a touch of comfort and edged in exterior grade leather. the "sail" seat is suspended from the frame using rigging rope and Barton triple pulley blocks, allowing the user to adjust the height and pitch of the seat whilst seated with ease.
the result of this project is a seat that can support two people [as long as you really like each other], that is fun and gives the user; the relaxing and wonderful suspended feeling of a hammock. the design draws clear parallels between its materials origins and its new purpose with a light and clean look.
