built-in larder unit

larder and kitchen storage unit. the unit consist of eight extra deep drawers of varying heights. starting at the bottom with a giant drawer capable to house the largest domestic kitchen machines, next; a larder drawer high enough for bottles and extra large jars, followed by a slim drawer for cutlery, knives and chopping boards. next another three larder drawers, one of which made to fit standard size jars, tins and cartons. the top two drawers are too high up to be practical as regular drawers and were made into wine racks capable of holding twelve bottles each. the bottles are suspended on racks in and "up-side-down"-drawer, and are accessed from the underside.

the structure and drawer boxes are made from sturdy 18mm birch plywood with 12mm bottoms. the boxes are set on full extension 950mm drawer runners with a load rating of 250kgs. the choice of hardware, materials and dimensions make this unit capable of holding a huge amount of resources in a busy kitchen. Valchromat® in charcoal-grey and orange was chosen for the drawer fronts and dane-oil was used to offer good protection and a satin finish.
